Grace Bible Church in Lilongwe, Malawi
God called Pastor Kondi Nyanda to plant GBC in 2014 from a Bible study group of young men in Lilongwe, Malawi. He has continued to faithfully shepherd the flock by discipling those whom God adds to the church. This Malawi ministry is how people in the US can come alongside the Nyanda family through prayer and financial support.
Malawi is a landlocked country located in southern Africa, sharing borders with Mozambique, Zambia and Tanzania. Malawi has a 2022 estimated population of 20.4 million people, with 1.3 million in the metro area of the capital city, Lilongwe.
There are quite a number of serious challenges facing the Church in Malawi. Although Malawi has the reputation of being a God-fearing nation, the practice of Godliness is rare to find. Most of the people (around 80%) are quick to say that they are Christians, but what they mean is that they were born in a Christian home. There is a huge need of sound biblical churches in this country. The church in Malawi faces the challenge of both the fast growth of Islam and the influx of untrained men calling themselves pastors. False preachers have caused the church to remain immature.
Grace Bible church exists to teach the word of God to all people.
Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
Colossians 1:28
Our prayer is to strengthen this body of believers through the teaching of God’s word. We are committed to teaching the Bible because we are convinced that it is only when regenerated believers live their life according to the Bible that they will be able to live godly lives.
Our Leadership:
Grace Bible Church is shepherded by Kondi Nyanda. Kondi is married to Patricia and they have 3 children: Warren, Karen & Lauren.
GBC also has one lay elder in training: Allan Maganga
Allan is married to Linda and they have 3 children: Priscilla (2015), Don (2018) & Theodore (2023). Allan is a secondary school teacher in Lilongwe, and in 2024 he has taken an educational leave-of-absence to earn a Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He is gone from his family and the church for the 2024/2025 school year.
Grace Bible Church Ministries:
We have a men’s fellowship where we invite men from church and from the community at large to come around the word of God. This has resulted in us embarking on counseling ministries within our church. It is this Iron Men ministry of our church that helps men to see their need of Christ as their master.
Our women’s ministry has also proved to be a helpful tool in realizing growth in our ladies. Again, this is not only reserved for church members, we have opened the doors for others to attend and ask questions regarding the Bible. My wife Patricia has found joy in leading this ministry.
Another exciting ministry of our church is pre-marital counseling. We have seen fruit from this ministry. Like the men’s and women’s ministries, we have opened our doors to reach out to our community with this ministry. In our evangelism efforts, we are reaching out to the college students in and around Lilongwe. We were given the approval to go on the campus of a Nursing college and share the gospel with students, and we are committed to go there every Saturday. Our goal is to establish a Bible study within the campus through which God’s Word is proclaimed and planted within the hearts and lives of those who would be saved.
Grace Bible Church longs for the day when churches will be planted to reach out to the spiritual and physical needs of the people in the communities where it is found. For this to be realized, there is a need to train leaders, who will in turn train others. Therefore, our long-term goal is to be involved in the training of those who aspire to this rewarding ministry. As a church, we have recently acquired a piece of property in a strategic area in one of the developing areas of Lilongwe. This property will increase our visibility in the community, and will make it more convenient for people to join us in services on the property.
We are grateful for your partnership in prayer and financial support. These will enable us to continue presenting Christ, making Him known to all the people in our communities here in Malawi.
